The Jonesboro region offers plenty to keep you busy when the workday, or week, ends. In addition to the arts and dining, there are historical day trips, city parks and entertainment venues. Just stop by the chamber of commerce for assistance in planning activities for a day or a week.

The Arkansas State University Museum, which interprets the rich history of the Crowley’s Ridge Region and the Lower Mississippi River Valley, is accredited by the American Association of Museums. It is one of four accredited museums in the state. The ASU Museum is located in the west wing of the library and museum complex in the heart of the ASU campus. Hours 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday (except campus holidays). All exhibits are open to the public and admission is free.

The Fowler Center on the campus of Arkansas State University features a concert hall, drama stage, experimental theatre, teaching gallery and a grand lobby. Each year the Fowler Center series brings numerous visiting musicians to Jonesboro. In addition the ASU Theatre Department hosts four theatrical performances. The venue is also utilized for numerous concerts and opera performances.

The Bradbury Gallery features changing exhibitions of contemporary art in all mediums. Nationally and internationally recognized artists are represented to inform viewers of cultural developments across the U.S. and around the world. Twice yearly, the gallery features work by graduating seniors from the ASU Department of Art. The gallery is located at 201 Olympic Drive in the Fowler Center on the ASU campus. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday noon-5 p.m. and 2-5 p.m. on Sunday. All exhibitions are free and open to the public.

The Forum Theatre, the cornerstone of historic downtown Jonesboro, is home to The Foundation of Arts, a regional non-profit organization dedicated to fostering the arts through community theatre, and classes in art, dance, drama, and music. Several productions are held each year and auditions are open to the public.

The Delta Symphony has been entertaining, educating, and enriching the northeast Arkansas region of the Delta for 30 years. Special projects include the Adopt a School program where orchestral musicians visit selected schools and the Concerto Competition in which talented young musicians audition for an opportunity to perform solos with the symphony. The only professional performing symphony in this region, the symphony performs three concerts annually in the Fowler Center.

The Convocation Center, completed in 1987, has the versatility to host events ranging from small lectures to conventions, concerts, sporting events, trade shows, rodeos and other activities. The center seats 11,500 for concerts and 10,529 for basketball games. Features include one of the largest telescopic seating configurations in the world; meeting rooms and banquet facilities for groups up to 600 people (more than 1,000 on the arena floor); a lecture hall with seating for 281 and audiovisual facilities, a portable stage and sound facilities in the arena and parking for 1,300 vehicles.

Forrest L. Wood Crowley’s Ridge Nature Center on the southern edge of Jonesboro tells the story of a unique ridge atop the Mississippi Delta with indoor and outdoor exhibits films and trails. The 17,000-SF, three-tiered facility is an educational, exhibit, and meeting facility located on 160 acres adjacent to Craighead Forest Park. It is open all year and admission is free.

The Craighead County Jonesboro Public Library is a full service facility located in downtown Jonesboro. Offerings include print books, eBooks, books on tape, a children’s library and special events held throughout the year.

Shopping and dining in Jonesboro means a wide range of opportunities. The city is a regional shopping area for northeast Arkansas and southeast Missouri. The Mall at Turtle Creek offers 750,000 square feet of retail shopping. Retail shopping centers and restaurants are located all over town and you can find every national brand here. The revitalized downtown Jonesboro is the place to find unique shops and restaurants that offer cuisine to fit everyone’s taste. In addition, many venues offer live entertainment every day of the week.
