Fayetteville MSA Noncitizen Population Remains Highest in Arkansas

1 min read

The 2010-2012 American Community Survey reported last month that 10.3 million noncitizens under the age of 35 live in the United States, or less than 4 percent of the total population.

“Most of these immigrants — about 80 percent — were young adults between the ages of 18 and 34,” the U.S. Census Bureau says. About 60 percent have lived in the U.S. for five years or more, and more than half came to this country when they were under 18.

Arkansas has a population of 133,000 foreign-born residents out of a total population of 2.9 million, according to the report. Arkansas’ noncitizen population under 35 totals 55,000, or 1.9 percent of the state’s total population.
