Confirmed: Men's Basketball Coach Dickey Nutt to Leave ASU

Our Jim Harris had heard that ASU men's basketball coach Dickey Nutt was leaving ASU, and it's been confirmed by Dickey Nutt.

Arkansas State University's Sports Information Department won't confirm or deny, but says there's a "major" announcement planned about the future of the team at a 6:30 p.m. news conference this afternoon.

Despite ASU's reluctancy to confirm the story, Nutt appeared on "Sports Rap", the radio show hosted by Shawn Arnell, Wally Hall and editor Jim Harris, to confirm that he would be leaving his position as head basketball coach. He also added that he had resigned his post and would not accompany the team to its game against Arkansas-Little Rock on Thursday.

The men's basketball team has been coached by Dickey Nutt, a brother to former University of Arkansas football coach Houston Nutt, who is now at Ole Miss.

Dickey Nutt had hoped, as recently as last week, that this season wasn't going to be his last.

Noted in the spring: ASU did not extend Dickey Nutt's contract.

UPDATED: The ASU Herald is now on the story.
