AS360 Football Picks: The Bowl Edition

Welcome to the Bowl Edition, folks. Many bowls have already been played, you say? What up, you ask? Well, we wanted to limit our selection to the games that matter most.

[Editor's note: We have no explanation, then, as to why the Sugar and Orange bowls are included. Ba-da-bing. We're here all week.]

We hope everyone had a good Christmas and holiday season. Imagine now, if you will, how dreary January could be without the lineup of bowls and NFL playoff games to occupy us over the next few weeks. (Of course, now imagine just how great it would be to add a FBS playoff to the January mix...)

Arkansans will pay special attention to three January games as the Hogs return to Dallas with the Cotton poised to officially take the reign as the best non-BCS bowl; ASU welcomes Gus Malzahn aboard for just its second FBS bowl game, and LSU or Alabama will guarantee a sixth straight BCS title for the SEC in a rematch for the ages (perhaps outside of Stillwater, anyway).

Guest picker for the Bowl Edition is none other than Jeff Hankins, Arkansas Business Publishing Group publisher; this very site a member of the ABPG family.

And so, one last time (so Paddack can officially wrap up the grand prize of a Fleet EneMan desk clock), we give you:

Tre Baker, Assistant Editor, ArkansasSports360.com
(44-26, 3-2)
Cotton
: Arkansas. Glad those EMAW folks finally figured out how to pronounce the last syllable of our respective state names.
GoDaddy.com
: ASU. Despite (as of this writing) not knowing exactly who will be coaching this game, ASU's on too much of a roll.
Rose
: Oregon
Fiesta
: Stanford
Sugar
: Michigan
Orange
: West Virginia
BCS title game
: LSU. The one consolation to watching LSU win another national championship is having the opportunity to watch Alabama lose a national championship.

Steve Sullivan, Sports Director, KATV
(44-26, 3-2)
Cotton
: Hogs, 37-27. Hope the games are as entertaining as I'm forecasting.
GoDaddy.com: ASU, 38-31.
Rose
: Wisconsin, 35-30.
Fiesta
: Stanford, 41-40.
Sugar
: Michigan, 28-14.
Orange

Jeff Hankins, Publisher, ABPG
(guest pickers 43-27, 3-2)
Cotton
: Hogs, 34-31.
GoDaddy.com
: ASU, 34-17. Coupled with Auburn victory, Gus Malzahn will have a 2-0 bowl season.
Rose
: Oregon, 27-24 (OT)
Fiesta
: Stanford, 41-38. Stanford wins on late drive and winning field goal.
Sugar
: Virginia Tech, 23-17. But honestly, who on earth cares?
Orange
: Clemson, 31-26.
BCS title game
: LSU, 16-12. LSU wins with special teams or defensive scoring.

Mark Carter, Editor, InnovateArkansas.org
(43-27, 3-2)
Cotton
: Hogs, 41-28. I'm dreaming of a top 10 (if not 5?) start to 2012.
GoDaddy.com
: ASU, 41-38. Hard to pick against the Wolves right now, transition be darned.
Rose
: Wisconsin, 30-24. Midwestern beef cows against Pacific seals. How bad will Oregon's unis be for this one? The over/under is "very, very bad."
Fiesta
: Okie State, 42-31. Statement game for Pokes, whose fans will own the stands.
Sugar
: Michigan, 27-14. Blah, humbug.
Orange
: Clemson, 34-24. WVU has enjoyed its last kiddie ride to a gimme conference title and BCS berth.
BCS title game
: Alabama, 17-14. But I'm not very confident in this pick.

Jim Harris, Columnist, ArkansasSports360.com
(43-27, 3-2)
Cotton
: K-State, 38-31. This Arkansas team should win, but has never seemed comfortable away from home.
GoDaddy.com
: Northern Illinois, 25-20. Too much transition for ASU to be focused.
Rose
: Oregon, 35-24. Speed kills the Big Ten.
Fiesta
: Okie State, 49-31. Cowboys out to prove something.
Sugar
: Michigan, 38-17. Hokies were most overrated team in the country.
Orange
: Clemson, 45-42. Should be as exciting as any BCS game.
BCS title game
: LSU, 17-10. Tigers have a few more weapons than Tide and love the Dome.
