Murphy Oil Corp. of El Dorado announced on Tuesday that it would advance the appointment of Claiborne P. Deming to chairman of its board of directors, effective immediately.
The previous chairman, William C. Nolan Jr., died last week. Deming was elected as chairman in December and was slated to take over for Nolan upon Nolan's retirement on May 1.
Nolan had been chairman since 2002, and was on the board since 1977.
Deming has been a company director since 1993 and was president and CEO of Murphy from 1994 to 2008. He has chaired the board's executive committee since 2009.
Deming is the nephew of Charles Murphy Jr., who established the company.
Outside of Murphy, Deming also served on the board of Entergy Corp. from 2002 to 2006. He was member of the Arkansas State Board of Education from 1999 to 2002.
