Created by Arkansas Business and presented by Crews & Associates, the City of Distinction awards recognize Arkansas cities for outstanding achievements in the following areas: Quality of Life, Workforce Development, Main Street Preservation, Green Initiatives and Technology Advancements.
Two cities were recognized as winners in each category; one with a population over 20,000 and one with under 20,000.
Quality of Life winners were Bentonville (over 20,000) and El Dorado (under 20,000); Workforce Development winners were Jonesboro and Arkadelphia; Main Street Preservation winners were Bentonville and El Dorado; Green Initiative winners were Conway and North Little Rock (both over 20,000), and Technology Advancement winners were Little Rock and Dumas.
Honorable mention recognition in the Quality of Life category was afforded the cities of Fayetteville, Bryant and Heber Springs, and to West Memphis in the Main Street Preservation category.
Speakers at the Winter Conference included Kevin Scanlon, executive vice president with Stephens Inc., who quarterbacked the Razorbacks to a 1979 Southwest Conference co-championship and Sugar Bowl berth; Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola, and Arkansas Business Publishing Group Publisher Jeff Hankins.
