Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville on Thursday will announce a $1 million donation from the Jack and Melba Shewmaker Family.
The museum, which opened last month, said it will use the money for its hands-on educational programs.
Museum directors will officially announce the donation at a news conference at 10 a.m. Thursday at the museum. Shewmaker family members, including Melba Shewmaker, will be present at the event.
Crystal Bridges, the brainchild of Wal-Mart heiress Alice Walton, has been largely bankrolled by Walton family interests, including the Walton Family Foundation. But other groups, including the Willard and Pat Walker Charitable Foundation and J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. of Lowell have given millions of dollars.
