Dr. Benjamin Burris of Braces by Burris in Jonesboro and Christie Jordan of Foodbank of Northeast Arkansas received executive of the year awards at the first Northeast Arkansas Business of the Year awards banquet Tuesday evening in Jonesboro.
The event, presented by Jones & Co. of Jonesboro and attended by about 350 in the regional business community, took place at the Arkansas State University Convocation Center. Businesses and nonprofits were honored in several categories.
Burris received the award for Business Executive of the Year. Jordan was named Nonprofit Executive of the Year.
Other winners were:
- Sound Concepts of Jonesboro in category I. Nominees were Aspen Transportation, Bob Nichols Nationwide Insurance, J Christopher Toys and ERS Doty Real Estate.
- All Clean USA of Jonesboro in category II (26 to 75 employees). Nominees were Best Diversified, Braces by Burris, Construction Network Inc., Syntel and Otolaryngology & Facial Surgery Centre.
- John 3:16 Ministries of Charlotte (near Batesville) for Nonprofit of the Year. Nominees were United Way of Northeast Arkansas, Doni Martin Center for Developmental Services in Pocahontas, Junior Auxiliary, Foodbank of Northeast Arkansas and David E. Puryear Center Inc.
Finalists for Business Executive of the Year were Brett Overman of All Clean USA in Jonesboro and Al Heringer of Star Transportation in Jonesboro.
Nonprofit Executive of the Year finalists were Cathy Drew, Ozark Gateway Tourist Council, Batesville; Doni Martin, Doni Martin Center for Developmental Services, Pocahontas; Nanette Heard, United Way of Northeast Arkansas, Jonesboro; and Linnette Pryor, David E. Puryear Center Inc., Jonesboro.
All winners are entered into the annual statewide Arkansas Business of the Year Awards event, which takes place in February.
Readers nominate businesses and executives for each category. A panel of independent judges determines the winners.
Also Tuesday, Nucor Steel was honored as the Northeast Arkansas Community Foundation Outstanding Philanthropic Corporation.
