"For the year Arkansas is in line with the rest of the region and the nation," Amy Glover Bryant, the association's communications director, said in a news release.

"We are cautiously optimistic about this improvement and, while we are looking forward to a strong August and September reports, we recognize that the fourth quarter could be challenging as the U.S. economy continues to struggle," she said.

The report showed 2,167 home sold in Arkansas in July, up 19.8 percent from 1,809 sold during the same month last year.

Among the top counties for home sales last month, Pulaski led the way, with 376 home sold, up 22.5 percent from 307 homes sold in July 2010.
