Yarnell's Sells Remaining Ice Cream to Wal-Mart

One Last, Sweet Farewell

When Yarnell’s Ice Cream Co. suddenly closed on June 30, all its workers were laid off immediately, meaning inventory that was still in the Searcy plant was left there.

A spokeswoman for the company, Natalie Ghidotti, confirms to Whispers that the remaining ice cream has been sold to Wal-Mart Stores Inc., but exactly when and where it will be available to the public isn’t clear. Wal-Mart hasn’t responded to our request for more information.

The inventory was collateral for Yarnell’s bank line of credit, so that’s where the proceeds of the sale will go, according to Gene Eagle, vice president of development finance for the Arkansas Development Finance Authority. ADFA also loaned money to Yarnell’s, but its bonds were secured by the plant rather than the ice cream itself.
