Perhaps you heard that Little Rock's Bank of the Ozarks Inc. (No. 2) and Simmons First National Corp. of Pine Bluff (No. 23) ranked among the top performers on a list labeled the 150 largest banks in the nation.
Those recent rankings for the 12 months ending June 30, 2009, by Bank Director magazine included other familiar names on the state's banking scene.
Examples: BancorpSouth Bank of Tupelo, Miss., (No. 27), U.S. Bancorp of Minneapolis (No. 36), Iberiabank Corp. of Lafayette, La., (No. 55), Bank of America Corp. of Charlotte, N.C., (No. 92) and Regions Financial Corp. of Birmingham, Ala. (No. 122).
Missing in action is Arvest Bank Group of Fayetteville, the largest bank operator based in Arkansas with total assets of more than $10.7 billion at June 30.
We tried to check on this but didn't hear back from Bank Director by press time.
Maybe privately owned banks such as Arvest were excluded.
