Outtakes was able to get very little out of Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Deputy Editor Frank Fellone concerning the Democrat-Gazette's attitude toward the disappearance of Little Rock businessman John Glasgow on Jan. 28.
The D-G followed other news organizations in reporting Glasgow's disappearance by several days, and neither the first story, on Feb. 4, nor a brief item about a reward offered for information in his case on Feb. 14 included a photo of the missing man. The only photo of Glasgow that has appeared in the statewide daily was in a paid advertisement placed by his frantic family.
"Experience tells us that many people of all kinds and all ages turn up missing over the course of a year," Fellone said. "Some are newsworthy and some are not."
Fellone then did not comment on how the paper decides its news coverage.
"To explain why you don't do a news story is to invite madness," he said.
He also had no reaction as to why the Glasgow family had to take out an advertisement in order to get Glasgow's picture in the paper.
"Here in the newsroom, there should be no reaction to what an advertiser does," Fellone said.
