Oaklawn to Announce 100th Anniversary Celebration

Charles J. Cella of St. Louis, president of family-owned Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, will announce on Wednesday a list of special events and promotions to mark the racetrack's 100th anniversary season, sources have told Arkansasbusiness.com.

A news conference is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Peabody Little Rock. The purpose of the news conference has not been officially announced.

Oaklawn's live racing season will open on Friday, Jan. 23, and continue into April, according to the track's Web site, www.oaklawn.com.

Inspired by the popularity of another racetrack in Hot Springs, Oaklawn Jockey Club was incorporated in 1904 and opened in February 1905. Cella family members were among the original investors.
