Karen Flake has been named president and CEO of Mount St. Mary Academy in Little Rock.
Background: A 1965 graduate of Mount St. Mary Academy, Karen Flake returned to teach English at her alma mater from 1972-77. She currently serves on the board of directors of Mount St. Mary Foundation, was previously a member of the Lasting Efforts Campaign Cabinet at the school and was named Outstanding Alumna in 2001. Flake earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a master's in interpersonal and organization communications from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
Experience: Flake has two decades of experience in the research industry. She worked for 11 years as managing partner of the data research firm Flake-Wilkerson Market Insights of North Little Rock. The firm was sold in 2007 to Market Strategies International; Flake became vice chair of the company's executive committee. In 2009, she opened the research and consulting firm Karen Flake & Associates of Little Rock. Flake currently serves on the boards of Our House and the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and is the outgoing board of directors' chairperson at CARTI, the nonprofit Central Arkansas Radiation Therapy Institute. Flake previously served as chair of the boards of the Centers for Youth & Families, the St. Vincent Women's Advisory Board at St. Vincent Health System and the Arkansas Women's Leadership Forum, which she co-founded. She was also appointed by two governors to serve terms on the Arkansas Development Finance Authority.
New Position: Sister Deborah Troilett, a member of the religious community the Sisters of Mercy, was the previous president of the school. Flake's responsibilities will include spearheading development, finances and long-range planning for Mount St. Mary. "Karen Flake epitomizes the best qualities of a Mount St. Mary alumna. Her love and support for this school are well known in our community," said Tom Devine, chairman of the Mount St. Mary Academy board of directors. "The board and I are excited about the future of Mount St. Mary under Karen's leadership. We are looking forward to working with her for years to come."
