Entergy Arkansas Inc. on Wednesday told employees of its Pine Bluff systems operations center that their facility would be closed by 2015.
The company said the facility's 97 employees will be transferred to two new facilities in Jackson, Miss., and Little Rock.
Entergy is also closing centers in Beaumont, Texas; West Monroe, La.; and Gretna, La.
According to Entergy, the change relates to aging facilities and equipment at several sites across its territory.
"Because of the needed upgrades, staying in the current facilities is no longer an option for the company, due to their age, vulnerability to weather events and need for security and maintenance upgrades," the company said in a statement. "This is also timely because some have leases expiring in 2015."
No workers would be laid off, the company said, but if Entergy's proposed merger with ITC Midsouth LLC of Novi, Mich., occurs, some would be asked to move to The Woodlands, Texas.
