More than 40 democratic former heads of state and government members of the international nonprofit Club de Madrid will meet Dec. 17-18 at the Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock for the group's annual conference.
Participants of the meeting, which will focus on political and economic empowerment for women, include Michele Bachelet, secretary general of UN Women; actress Geena Davis, director of the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media; and Tawakul Karman, the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize winner.
The event, organized by Club de Madrid, is getting help this year from the William J. Clinton Foundation.
At the event, called "Harnessing 21st Century Solutions: A Focus on Women," attendees will review strategies to maximize the opportunities for "effective social change and empowerment of women in the 21st century." Event leaders say companies like Acxiom Corp. of Little Rock, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. of Bentonville, and Microsoft of Redmond, Wash., will be represented.
