Arkansas Best Expands Global Supply Chain Services To Turkey, Europe

Arkansas Best Corp. of Fort Smith said Friday that it is expanding its ABF Global Supply Chain Services operation into Europe and Turkey.

Services provided include ocean transport of full container load and less-than-container load shipments.

ABF previously expanded its global operation in Asia. Now the Fort Smith-based company is operating with offices in Turkey, German, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, The Netherlands, Ireland and Poland. Service in Europe include 15 ports.

"With this new expansion and our existing presence in China, India and Southeast Asia countries, ABF GSCS covers over 80 percent of the total ocean import market to the United States," Carlos Martinez-Tomatis, ABF GSCS division vice president, said in a news release. "Global customers experience truly seamless service from end-to-end. Best of all, customers benefit from one customer service contact trained to assist with end-to-end documentation services, seamless visibility via abf.com, and single-source pricing and invoicing."

ABF is the principal subsidiary of Arkansas Best Corp., a publicly traded trucking and logistics firm (Nasdaq: ABFS). Last month, Arkansas Best reported a third-quarter net income of $6.5 million, or 24 cents per share, down 47 percent from $12.3 million, or 46 cents per share, during the same quarter last year.

That decline came even as the company posted operating revenue of $577.5 million, up 13 percent from the same quarter last year.
