Ex-UCA President Allen Meadors Pleads Guilty to Misdemeanor

CONWAY — Former University of Central Arkansas President Allen Meadors has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of violating the Freedom of Information Act and was fined $250.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that Meadors' attorney entered the plea Monday in Faulkner County Circuit Court. Meadors did not appear in court.

Meadors was initially charged with solicitation of tampering with a public record following an investigation into UCA food vendor Aramark offering $700,000 toward renovating the university-owned president's home in exchange for a contract extension. The money was first described as a gift with no mention of the contract. Meadors resigned in September 2011 shortly after the details became known.

Prosecutors say Meadors later tried to get a UCA official to destroy a letter from Aramark that included details of the deal.
