Sajni Kumpuris, a former marketing executive at Dillard’s Inc., has opened her own business, Kumpuris Communications, which specializes in training, marketing and special event video productions for companies and organizations.
Kumpuris spent 18 years as part of the Dillard’s marketing team, but she decided to strike out on her own.
She is operating her business from her home in west Little Rock.
“Owning my own company allows me to get embedded from beginning to end and really become invested in the success of my clients’ projects,” she said. “It also allows me the flexibility to meet the needs of my family.”
Since most of the video editing and production are done in a familiar, comfortable environment, the cost of running Kumpuris Communications is fairly low.
Kumpuris uses standard office communications software for business matters and hires local graphic artists who use premium multimedia software.
The talent of her staff is what pleases Kumpuris the most, she said, though that staff also accounts for much of her small-business expense.
“My biggest expense is the same as with most any business, paying for talented people,” she said. But “one of the things I am proud of is that I hire talented people and know when to stand down and let them be creative.”
Since opening in late 2011, Kumpuris Communications has produced marketing material for the Arkansas Conference of the United Methodist Church, the American Cancer Society and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
Though she hires associates to help her with different projects, Kumpuris believes the personal nature of her business is what has propelled its success.
“I define a successful project when my client is thrilled with the entire project from the initial meeting to the final delivery of the content,” Kumpuris said.
