R.T. “Rick” Beard III has been named managing director of Mitchell Williams Selig Gates & Woodyard PLLC in Little Rock.
Beard, 66, replaces Harry Hamlin, who served six years in that position. Hamlin will remain at the law firm and handle its business practice, specializing in commercial transactions.
Beard said being the managing director was similar to being a chief operating officer at a company.
He said the law firm’s plan for growth is the same that it’s been for more than 50 years. “That is to provide quality legal services to our clients through the hiring and … retention of quality lawyers,” Beard said. “And I don’t intend to upset that apple cart.”
The full-service firm has 92 attorneys and handles everything from intellectual property issues to estate planning. Mitchell Williams’ clients range from small companies to Wal-Mart Stores Inc. of Bentonville.
In addition to being managing director, Beard will continue to practice full time at the firm he joined in 1987. He represents health care providers who have been sued in medical malpractice cases.
