J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. of Lowell on Thursday announced first-quarter earnings of $73.3 million, up more than 8 percent from the same quarter last year.
Earnings per share reached 61 cents, up 7 percent from the same time last year. But the trucking company missed analyst expectations of 64 cents per share.
Total operating revenue for the quarter reached $1.29 billion, up 10 percent from $1.17 billion for the same time period in 2012. Operating income was $125 million, up 7 percent from the same time year.
The company also reported 13 percent load growth in its intermodal segment and 47 percent growth in its integrated capacity solutions segment, which drove overall revenue increases. But trucking revenue was down due to a 21 percent decrease in fleet size.
J.B. Hunt (Nasdaq: JBHT) will hold its annual shareholders meeting April 25 at its corporate office in Lowell.
