The husband-and-wife team of Susan and Brent Robinson, owners of Fayetteville’s Fly-N-Hog Media, needed an affordable, user-friendly platform for their indoor electronic billboards.
“The platform we built for our ad networks is a great tool for businesses, health facilities, educational institutions, places of worship, factories, retail stores and other entities that need to display multiple messages in an entertaining manner on site at their locations,” said Brent Robinson. “We have invested years of capital, time and research into the development of our digital signage software program in order to create a product that is both highly technical, yet extremely user-friendly for our customers, eliminating much of the confusing aspects of digital signage.”
The Aurora technology allows customers to upload content to any number of screens in multiple locations from their computers or handheld devices and control when specific content is shown.
“Information appears within minutes on the designated screens or can be scheduled to be displayed at specific times and dates,” said Susan Robinson. “Multiple users can access the software simultaneously or a customer can give a specific user access to only control a specific group of screens. Through the software, the digital signs can be set to turn on and off depending on the hours of operation, extending the shelf life of the television and ensuring that the sign is turned on at the appropriate times.”
Because of their experience with indoor advertising through Fly-N-Hog, the Robinsons feel as though they know what works and where. Plus, they believe their business model sets them apart.
“Unlike many of our competitors, our pricing model contains no hidden costs,” Brent said. “Major competitors in digital signage seek to attract new customers with low up-front costs, but embed additional fees in each software upgrade. We provide upgrades as an essential tool with the software cost package as we pursue ongoing development for the benefit of all our users, present and future. Our hardware is easy to install and runs on a Wi-Fi or direct Internet connection. This helps attract resellers as well as puts IT departments at ease.”
Aurora has developed a solid in-state client list including the Museum of Discovery in Little Rock, the Chancellor Hotel in Fayetteville, White Oak Station convenience stores in northwest Arkansas, UAMS-Northwest in Fayetteville and Lakeside Public Schools in Hot Springs.
In addition, Aurora is working with 10 Fitness in Little Rock to provide digital signage at its central Arkansas fitness center locations.
“They’re interested in displaying specific information in their break rooms to keep their employees aware of company information,” said Susan. “They also plan to place other signs in their facilities to keep customers up to date on class schedules and membership benefits.”
Currently with five employees, Aurora is in a growth phase.
“We have everything in place to help very small to extremely large facilities implement a digital signage solution,” Brent said. “At this point, we are a debt-free company and have developed a system which allows us to quickly deliver any number of requested signs to a client within only two weeks.”
Thanks in large part to its launch of Aurora, Fly-N-Hog Media was named the 2012 Entrepreneurial Business of the Year by the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce. The Robinsons see digital signage playing an ever-increasing role for businesses of all kinds and sizes in everything from the generation of advertising revenue to patient and customer check-in.
“The uses for digital signage are unlimited,” Susan said. “We are already seeing digital signage in all types of businesses and organizations where people congregate for any period of time.”
