J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. on Monday announced second-quarter 2013 earnings of $87.7 million, or 73 cents per share, compared with $80.5 million, or 67 cents per share, in the year-earlier quarter. That was an increase of almost 9 percent.
The earnings came on total operating revenue of $1.38 billion in second-quarter 2013, compared with $1.26 billion total operating revenue for the second quarter of 2012.
The company, based in Lowell, said growth in its intermodal (JBI), integrated capacity solutions (ICS) and dedicated contract services (DCS) sectors helped propel the increase in operating revenue. A smaller fleet and less use led to a 20 percent decline in revenue in the company's truck segment (JBT). Total operating revenue for the quarter, excluding fuel surcharges, rose 11 percent year over year.
The trucking company's first-quarter earnings were $73.3 million, up more than 8 percent from the same quarter last year.
