Donovan Marine Inc. of Harahan, La., recently acquired Southern Marine Inc. of Little Rock.
Donovan and Southern are wholesale distributors of marine supplies for recreational boating dealers and marinas.
The acquisition included Southern’s headquarters at 6600 Murray St. and locations in Denton, Texas; Charlotte, N.C.; and Birmingham, Ala. Donovan now has 18 marine supply distribution centers spread across 11 states.
Donovan’s Ben Nicholl will be the CEO of the newly combined entity.
Rick Willis, former president of Southern, said Southern will continue doing business under its name through 2014, at which point it could change.
Southern employs 90 people companywide, 40 of whom work in Little Rock. Willis said there will be no staffing changes in Little Rock but indicated that there could be some at the other three locations.
Willis will serve as the general manager of Donovan’s freshwater division. He will oversee operations at the four former Southern Marine locations as well as Donovan’s Nashville, Tenn., and Atlanta locations.
Willis said operations at Donovan’s Fort Worth, Texas, location will soon be combined with those of the newly acquired Denton location.
Donovan’s vendors include General Motors, 3M, Zodiac, Teleflex Marine, ZF Industries, Parker Hannifin, Interlux Coatings and Duramax Marine, according to the Donovan website.
