European Masters Exhibit Continues at Arkansas Arts Center Through Sept. 8

Although Arkansans are rightfully proud of Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art — which by now should have welcomed its 1 millionth visitor since it opened Nov. 11, 2011 — we shouldn’t forget another treasure now in our midst: “Rembrandt, Van Dyck, Gainsborough: The Treasures of Kenwood House, London.”

The exhibit is at the Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock through Sept. 8, and features magnificent paintings by great European masters.

Katie Hodges, an Arts Center spokesman, noted that because sponsors had completely paid for the exhibit, “we were not dependent upon ticket sales to pay for the exhibition. We wanted to create an opportunity for as many visitors as possible to experience this significant exhibition without relying on a certain number of ticket sales.”

As of late last week, the Arts Center had seen more than 8,500 visitors from 34 states visit the exhibit, Hodges said. In addition, she said, the exhibition had led to an increase in center membership.
