Nursing Home Manager Diversicare Leaves Arkansas

Diversicare Healthcare Services Inc. announced Tuesday that it no longer manages 11 nursing homes in Arkansas.

"The decision to exit Arkansas after 20 years was not one that we took lightly," said Kelly J. Gill, Diversicare's president and CEO, in a news release. "But we have concluded that it is in the best interest of Diversicare and its shareholders to focus on our operations in other regions."

Diversicare, of BrentwoodTenn., operated the nursing homes for Omega Healthcare Investors of Hunt Valley, Md. Both companies are publicly traded.

Diversicare had announced its plans to exit the Arkansas market on Aug. 1, but it needed to meet certain conditions, including state licensure and regulatory approval, before it could walk away from the state.

On Sept. 3, Diversicare said it completed the transaction.

"We want to thank Omega for their support in identifying a new operator to assume theses leases," Gill said.

The news release didn't say who the new manager is. But the Arkansas Department of Human Services said the new operators are John Ponthie and Ross Ponthie, who own other nursing homes in Arkansas under the name of Progressive Eldercare Services Inc. of Louisiana.

Diversicare declinded to comment and Omega didn't return a call.

Diversicare operates 43 nursing homes mainly in the Southeast and Southwest parts of the country.
