3E Program Will Offer Entrepreneurship Classes at 9 Community Colleges

The Arkansas Women's Business Center in El Dorado has partnered with nine community colleges across the state to offer courses in entrepreneurship and small business.

The 3E Program (which stands for entrepreneur, education and expansion) will be led by Sherry Howard, director of the AWBC, a program of Winrock International and the U.S. Small Business Administration. Its mission is to meet the needs of female business owners through technical assistance, training and access to capital. But its services are open to everyone.

Participating schools in the 3E Program are:

  • Arkansas State University at Beebe (including its satellite facility in Searcy)
  • Arkansas State University at Newport
  • Black River Technical College, Pocahontas
  • Mid-South Community College, West Memphis
  • NorthWest Arkansas Community College, Bentonville
  • College of the Ouachitas, Malvern
  • Rich Mountain Community College, Mena
  • South Arkansas Community College, El Dorado
  • Southeast Arkansas Community College, Pine Bluff.

"Having the right business skills is crucial for business success," Howard said in a press release. "Our objective is to help students and get the communities involved in this exciting program."

The program starts this month with two non-credit community education classes:

  • Social Media Strategy: The three-session workshop is for businesses that are using social media but need help strategizing and implementing a plan. Classes meet October 8, Oct. 10 and Oct. 15 from 6-8 p.m.
  • Bookkeepers’ Boot Camp: Also three sessions, this workshop is for businesses that need to get a record system in place and learn bookkeeping basics. Classes meet Oct. 22, Oct. 24 and Oct. 29 from 6-8 p.m.

The program will continue in the spring semester with more non-credit classes and two entrepreneur classes for credit. The spring classes for credit will be Introduction to Entrepreneurship and Professional Selling/Advertising.
