The U.S. Small Business Administration said Thursday that Jim Aardappel has been named deputy district director its Arkansas District Office.
"Jim will be a great addition to the Arkansas team since one of the priorities of the Obama Administration is to increase export education and opportunities for small businesses," Regional Administrator Yolanda Garcia Olivarez, who heads SBA Region VI, said in a news release.
The region covers Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
The SBA said Aardappel will "help boost economic development across the state by ensuring the delivery of SBA's loan programs and business development services."
"Jim's knowledge and background in the international arena is a plus for the area," Olivarez said. "We are also very proud that Jim is a veteran. His service to our nation continues in his new role as he works to support and strengthen small businesses."
Most recently, Aardappel was senior business specialist with BusinessUSA in the Michigan Field Office, part of the U.S. Department of Commerce. The BusinessUSA website helps small businesses interact with the federal government.
In the private sector, Aardappel held leadership roles as the international sales director for Cosmovision, and export sales manager, and department head for Draper Inc.
