Nine Percent of U.S. Children Uninsured

The percentage of Americans lacking health insurance fell slightly in 2012 compared with 2011, to 15.4 percent from 15.7 percent, though the number of uninsured people was little changed in 2012 compared with the previous year.

The U.S. Census Bureau released these and other figures in September in its report “Income, Poverty, and Health Insurance Coverage in the United States: 2012.” The data in this report come from the bureau’s 2013 “Current Population Survey Annual Social and Economic Supplement” and were collected in the 50 states and the District of Columbia. The data are based on a sample of about 100,000 addresses.
