The deadline to enter the 2014 Donald W. Reynolds Governor's Cup collegiate business-plan competition is Jan. 31.
The Governor's Cup is considered the state's premier business-plan contest for college students in Arkansas. According to the Arkansas Economic Acceleration Foundation, more than 2,000 students from 24 Arkansas colleges and universities have participated since the event's 2001 founding, with students and their faculty advisers earning more than $2 million in prize money.
The 2014 Governor's Cup awards luncheon is scheduled for April 9 from the Statehouse Convention Center in downtown Little Rock.
The competition was named for late media entrepreneur Donald Reynolds in 2004 when the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation provided a grant to AEAF, an affiliate of the Arkansas Capital Corporation Group, to continue the event as well as expand it to Oklahoma and Nevada.
Reynolds owned newspapers and other media outlets in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Nevada.
The DWR Tri-State Award annually pits the top winners from each of the three statewide competitions.
Arkansas teams have fared well at Tri-State and gone on to find success at national and international competitions. The competition is open to students at any Arkansas college or university including two-year schools.
