Those who frequent downtown Little Rock after 5 p.m. may be happy to know that Boulevard Bread Co.’s location in the River Market is extending its hours, and that may be a sign of further things to come for the market as a whole.
Christina Basham, owner of Boulevard, told Whispers that starting this week, the cafe will be open on Sundays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
Boulevard is also teaming with Challenge Entertainment — which also works with Little Rock establishments like Dugan’s — to host a trivia game on Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m.
Basham said the shift in hours is part of a joint effort between Boulevard and the River Market to offer more options to an increasing number of evening explorers of the downtown district.
“A lot of people in the district are enjoying the park and are coming down after work or on Sundays,” said Diana Long, director of River Market operations.
She said Bobby’s Bike Hike has historically been open on Sundays, but “in order for us to be able to move the market forward, we have to make some positive evolutionary changes, and we needed our biggest anchor spot to get in on this kind of progress. So we offered that opportunity to Boulevard.”
If it works out for Boulevard, Long said, by summer the opportunity to stay open later will be offered to the market’s other vendors.
She said about half of them had expressed interest in doing so.
