The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences announced last week that Dr. Pedro Delgado will be the director of its Psychiatric Research Institute starting April 1.
Delgado will replace Dr. Jeffrey Clothier, who is the interim director of PRI and the interim chair of the Department of Psychiatry in the College of Medicine. Clothier replaced Dr. Rick Smith who left PRI to become College of Medicine dean on May 1, 2013.
Delgado also will be the chair of the Department of Psychiatry in UAMS’ College of Medicine.
Since 2005, Delgado has been a professor and chairman of the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio’s Department of Psychiatry, according to a UAMS news release.
“I have enthusiastically accepted the challenge of taking the UAMS Psychiatric Research Institute to the next level based on the level of involvement and support provided by the community and the state Legislature, and the support and commitment evident in the collaborating hospitals and the outstanding faculty, trainees and staff there,” Delgado said in the news release.
The PRI is one of only nine facilities of its kind in the U.S. and offers services such as outpatient clinics, inpatient care and research. It also has 40 beds for psychiatric patients.
