Scott Harrell has been named publisher of Gatehouse Media publications for the company's Arkansas and northern Louisiana region.
According to Gatehouse, Harrell will be overseeing the Stuttgart Daily Leader, the Sifting Herald in Arkadelphia, the Hope Star, the Gurdon Times, the Nevada County Picayune-Times in Prescott, the Newport Independent, the Sun-Times in Heber Springs, the Helena World, the White Hall Journal and the Bastrop Daily Enterprise in Bastrop, La.
Harrell's new position was previously held by Mitch Bettis, publisher of Arkansas Business Publishing Group.
Harrell was most recently a publisher of AY and Talk Business Arkansas magazines in Little Rock. His departure comes shortly after those two publications announced a split, with Roby Brock now publishing Talk Business through his own company, River Rock Communications.
"I believe newspapers are so important to their local communities," Harrell said in a Gatehouse news release. "We have a responsibility to tell the stories that impact our readers' lives. We are the leading provider for news and advertising information in the communities we serve."
Harrell will be based in the office of the Stuttgart Daily Leader.
