The flagship location of Boulevard Bread Co. is about to get bigger.
Boulevard said Tuesday that it will expand into the former location of New Traditions, its neighbor for years at 1920 N. Grant St. in the Heights.
"We have had our eye on the space for a long time, and wanted to expand," Christina Basham, Boulevard owner, said. The financial details of the expansion were not disclosed.
Blair Graves, Boulevard manager and retail and cheese buyer, said some work has already started on the expansion, but it's expected to pick up in the next few weeks. Boulevard is hoping to move into the new space in August.
After the expansion, Boulevard's Heights location will be about 4,900 SF. Graves said the add-on will make way for about 50 to 75 more people in the dining area, which now offers about 12 tables. Boulevard will also add a banquet room for private parties.
Patrons can also expect more outdoor dining options. Currently, the Heights location offers about five tables on the deck, and two tables on the sidewalk, but the expansion is expected to double the outdoor seating.
And while the location currently offers only beer and wine, the expansion will bring with it a full bar focusing on classic cocktails and fresh ingredients.
Later weeknight and weekend hours are also in the works, Graves said.
"We have always wanted to have extended hours, but it never made sense before because of limited seating," she said.
There are also plans for more take-out options and more items in the deli and pantry. The lunch menu will stay the same, Graves said, but the dinner menu will see some changes, including the addition of appetizers, happy hour snacks and a small dessert menu.
"We just want to focus on doing a few things and doing them well," she said. "As opposed to pages and pages of items."
Boulevard's Sunday breakfast at the Heights location will also extend to Saturday mornings, Graves said.
"This is awesome," Basham said of the expansion. "All the things we wanted to do, and now we will have the room and capabilities."
