Publicly traded Arkansas Best Corp. of Fort Smith said Wednesday that it is changing its name to ArcBest Corp. and adopting a new Nasdaq stock trading symbol, "ARCB."
The company, which will report first-quarter earnings on Thursday, also unveiled a new logo system as it "strengthens its identity as a holistic provider of transportation and logistics solutions for a wide variety of customers."
The changes will be effective Thursday. The company said its new stock symbol and its new website, ARCB.com, will also debut Thursday.
"This marks an exciting new era for our organization," President and CEO Judy R. McReynolds said in a news release. "The new name, logo system and advertising campaign we are unveiling allow us to more clearly communicate our total value proposition to our customers, our employees and our shareholders through one unified identity under the ArcBest umbrella."
The company’s subsidiaries will continue to operate at ABF Freight, ABF Logistics and FleetNet. ArcBest is changing the name of its information technology arm from Data-Tronics Corp. to ArcBest Technologies and changing Panther Expedited Services to Panther Premium Logistics.
ArcBest acquired Panther in 2012 and formed ABF Logistics this past summer. The company’s household moving services will now be called ABF Moving and be a part of ABF Logistics.
ArcBest said at its shareholders meeting on April 23 that the company’s non-asset divisions Panther, Logistics and FleetNet helped generate $572 in revenue in 2013, a quarter of the company’s $2.3 billion in revenue.
Kathy Fieweger, the company’s chief marketing officer, said there will be an accompanying advertising campaign called "The Skill & The Will."
"It will serve as a declaration of our culture and character — on behalf of all 11,000-plus employees — as well as a unique and powerful description of our value proposition for customers," Fieweger said.
