U.S. Sens. Mark Pryor and John Boozman and U.S. Rep. Tim Griffin on Wednesday announced a $2.3 million grant for the new Conway Municipal Airport.
The lawmakers said the money will be used to complete construction at the airport in time for its August opening.
Conway city officials have said that the $30 million project will bring economic development to the city by attracting corporate customers, and it will solve serious safety issues present at the current site.
Wednesday's grant will help expand the new airport's northeast and T-hangar aprons; install on-site water and electrical utilities; install automated weather observing systems; relocate the remote communications outlet; and build the T-Hangar access road.
The money comes from the omnibus appropriations bill, which was signed into law in January.
