It was enough to give Pambra’s LLC of Little Rock an upset stomach.
Pambra’s said it created and sells the tummy liner, a cotton-based piece of material that is worn under the lower belly fold of obese people to keep the skin dry and preventing chaffing. A pack of three sells for about $20 on Amazon.com.
Pambra’s noticed that Dr. Leonard’s Healthcare Corp. of Edison, New Jersey, also peddled a similar product, according to a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Little Rock.
Pambra’s said it received a patent on the tummy liner on Dec. 3, yet the liners that Dr. Leonard’s continues to sell “were identical to or substantially the same as the tummy liner design” covered by Pambra’s patent.
Pambra’s said in the lawsuit that it warned Dr. Leonard’s in 2012 that a patent was in the works, but Dr. Leonard’s continued to sell its tummy liner.
Pambra’s is suing Dr. Leonard’s for design patent infringement and is seeking an unspecified amount of damages.
A representative for Dr. Leonard’s didn’t return a call for comment.
