This non-exempt position works under the general guidance of the Chief Clinical Officer and the direction of the Director of Springhill Clinical Programs. This position works directly with clients who attend the Day Services program in an effort to help clients meet goals outlined on their master treatment plan. Main duties include: Monitoring client functioning, assisting in the development/implementation of individual clients’ treatment plans and the clients’ attainment of goals and objectives through program milieu, skill groups, unit, and other activities and interactions. Must be able to communicate and coordinate with the Outpatient Therapists concerning the clients’ participation, attitude, functioning, behavior, progress or lack of same and shares new information as it is gained with the other program staff. Functions as a member of the treatment team and assists in promoting a therapeutic milieu. Document information relevant to the client’s functioning, strengths, needs, and progress toward treatment goals and objectives. Mental Health Paraprofessionals must maintain positive provider relations with community organizations, such as local businesses and hospitals, and provide internal and external customer service consistent with PCA’s goal of excellence and professionalism. • Serve as role model for clients by demonstrating appropriate grooming, dress, behavior, communication, interpersonal relationships with staff and clients, positive attitude, punctuality, responsibility, courtesy, etc. • Manage milieu by insuring clients are following assigned schedule, including attendance of appointments and groups outside of Day Treatment. • Assist clients in improving daily skills: budgeting, money management, shopping, using public transportation, hygiene, grooming, diet, menu planning, food preparation and storage, housekeeping, accessing services, positive self-advocacy (i.e. empowerment - enable clients to develop skills to take care of themselves). • Active participation in meetings by communicating client information/observations to the treatment team and performing other duties as assigned. • Communicate with Primary Therapist and/or Supervisor regarding individual member needs, behavior, new life circumstances, progress toward treatment goals and objectives. • Plan and assign tasks within units, other groups and activities and encourage client participation to accomplish individual treatment goals and unit responsibilities. • Knowledge of basic principles of human behavior and major symptoms of serious mental illnesses and substance abuse. • Knowledge of laws, regulations and standards regarding SMI clients and their treatment. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: • Have a Bachelor’s Degree in a human service field and certified or eligible for certification as a mental health paraprofessional as defined by State Standards, or have an Arkansas license as a nurse (i.e., LPTN or LPN) and certified or eligible for certification as a mental health paraprofessional as defined by State Standards. • Experience in mental health is preferred. SPECIAL CONDITIONS: • Current Arkansas Driver’s License and a good driving record. • CPR and First Aid Training are required and a drug screening and TB test are required. • Adult and child maltreatment registry background checks are required every 2 years and a criminal background check is required every 5 years.
