Long: Report of Texas 2009 Cancellation 'Premature'

FAYETTEVILLE - Arkansas is considering dropping Texas from its 2009 schedule, but that move has not been finalized.

Vice chancellor and athletic director Jeff Long called a report in today's Austin American Statesmen that the game was off until 2014, "premature." Long did confirm Arkansas is considering the move.

Arkansas could be contractually obligated to 13 games in 2009 if its series with Texas A&M in the Dallas Cowboys new stadium is finalized. NCAA rules limit teams to 12 regular season games, so one game would have to go.

There is no timetable for finishing the agreement with Texas A&M and the stadium, which is owned by former Razorback Jerry Jones. Long said details are still being put together and in the meantime, he's looking for a game to drop.

As a Hog fan and resident of Austin ,Texas I'd prefer not to have to explain to all those burnt orangebloods down here why the Hogs would postpone a home game against UT.
