FAYETTEVILLE - Razorback Foundation Board members officially removed Chuck Dicus from his position as president and promoted Harold Horton to the position Saturday, sources confirmed.
Board members of the athletic department's private, fund-raising arm held their annual meeting Saturday morning in Fayetteville. A source said Dicus was informed of the decision earlier in the week, but a formal announcement isn't expected to come from the Foundation until early Monday morning.
Horton, who will serve on an interim basis, declined comment when reached by cell phone. He deferred all questions to board president Ken Mourton, who could not be reached for comment. Other board members also could not be reached for comment.
Vice chancellor for athletics Jeff Long would not confirm a change had been made, but did acknowledge he attended the board meeting to discuss their "leadership role." Whatever decision was made, Long said he would support.
"That's their decision," Long said. "They don't have to consult with me on personnel issues."
Asked about Horton, Long praised the former Razorabcks player and coach.
"Harold Horton has been here for years and is loved by all the Razorback fans," Long said. "He has done a wonderful job with our club program around the state. Harold is a fine representative of the Razorback Foundation."
Dicus had been with the organization for 17 years. He was a Razorback All-American receiver in 1969-70 and a three-year starter on teams that compiled a record of 28-5 under coach Frank Broyles.
"Chuck Dicus has done a great job over the years, 17 years of working the Razorback Foundation," Long said. "... Chuck is one of us. He's a Razorback."
