FAYETTEVILLE - Point guard Marcus Britt has been suspended indefinitely from the Arkansas basketball team, following a weekend arrest for driving while intoxicated and an assortment of lesser traffic charges.
Britt, 21, was arrested in his hometown of Forrest City at 2:40 a.m. Saturday, according to a report in the Times-Herald newspaper. Britt was stopped after failing to stop at a stop sign and when tested his blood alcohol content was .113.
"[N]eedless to say, we are disappointed," Coach John Pelphrey said in a statement. "He is still a part of our team, but the expectations of being a Razorback include meeting high standards on the court and off the court."
Authorities also charged Britt with driving with a suspended license, no insurance, failure to appear and running a stop sign. Britt had a 2007 warrant for failing to appear after receiving a speeding ticket, the Times-Herald reported.
According to the paper, "Police reported the vehicle Britt was driving belongs to Martin and Meagan Rinker of Elkins."
ArkansasSports360.com has confirmed Britt borrowed the car from a friend.
Britt is the second Arkansas basketball player arrested for DWI since January. Brandon Moore, who has since transferred, was charged with DWI on Jan. 18 and missed two games.
Primarily, Arkansas has depended on Britt for depth. He averaged 3.7 points per game and was among the team's best defenders. Britt appeared in 30 games and started eight.
