College Football: Roberts Boots Three Players From Red Wolves, Including DB Involved in Shooting

DISMISSED: Paul Stephens and two other Red Wolves are no longer on the team.

JONESBORO -- Arkansas State head football coach Steve Roberts announced Monday that Paul Stephens, Leroy Trahan and Jarriel Norman have been dismissed from the team for conduct detrimental to the team.

"We continue to have expectations of a standard of conduct that produces a positive image of our program, and these three young men failed to live up to those expectations," said Roberts.  "We wish them well in their future endeavors."

Roberts and the ASU Athletic Department will have no further comment on this matter.

Stephens was reportedly shot on Saturday trying to break into the apartment of former Arkansas State football player Antonio Williams, who reported an intruder and fired a gunshot through his door. Stephens, who was listed as a starting defensive back following the Red Wolves' spring drills, was hospitalized after the shooting with a wound in his midsection, treated and then taken into police custody, according to a report.

The other two players dismissed along with Stephens were not named in the report of the apartment shooting.

Stephens was a senior defensive back, Trahan a junior defensive back and Norman a senior wide receiver on the team. Stephens recorded 10 tackles and one interception and Trahan posted two tackles last season during their first year on the team.  Norman caught 15 passes for 220 yards over the last three seasons.
