Two-Minute Drill: Arkansas 33, South Carolina 16

ARKANSAS 33, SOUTH CAROLINA 16
WHY ARKANSAS WON

Normally content to test defenses deep and try for all-or-nothing plays, the Arkansas offense showed patience. The Razorbacks converted 10 of 16 third downs, sustaining drives and keeping the ball away from South Carolina. Defensively, Arkansas stiffened after giving up an 80-yard touchdown to start the third quarter. Most importantly, the Razorbacks responded to pressure imposed by coach Bobby Petrino, who labeled Saturday's game as a "must-win."

GAME CHANGER
Things were tense in the third quarter with Arkansas clinging to a 17-16 lead and South Carolina driving.

Arkansas cornerback Jerell Norton killed the Gamecocks' momentum by intercepting a Stephen Garcia pass intended for Alshon Jeffrey and the end of a 41-yard drive. From there the Razorbacks scored 21 unanswered. Norton later added 37-yard punt return to set up an Arkansas scoring drive.

BIG BACK
Broderick Green seems to have figured things out.

Green looked good again this week for the Razorbacks, scoring two touchdowns. He ran tough near the goal line, getting in from two and three yards.

Arkansas used Green to pound away at the South Carolina defense all day. He also helped wind the clock late with the Razorbacks protecting a lead, finishing with 47 yards on 13 carries.

"When you can give it to a big guy late in the game and pound them right in the mouth, that's nice," offensive coordinator Paul Petrino said. "That was nice. It was nice to see."

Green has run for 181 yards and four touchdowns in the last two games. He had a school-record 99-yarder in last week's game against Eastern Michigan.

GOING BOWLING
There is still no guarantee the Razorbacks get to a bowl game. They need at least one more victory to clinch eligibility.

Representatives from three different bowls were on hand, just in case Arkansas gets to six wins or more. Watching the Razorbacks were folks from the Chik-fil-A, Liberty and Independence bowls.

GREAT DAY
Don't fixate on the fact Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett didn't have a touchdown pass. He was plenty productive.

Mallett showed he is maturing as a qb. Great patience in hitting the underneath receivers. Troy coming into town SHOULD not cause the Hogs trouble with becoming bowl elegible. Low # of penalties and no turnovers makes winning a whole lot easier!!!!!!If the Hogs stay focused ...

Well, Coach Bobby can blame himself on the fake punt all he wants, but that one is squarely on our future superstar running back, Ronnie Wingo, Junior. He had a hole good for 5-10 yards right in front of his face. Needing only a bit more than a yard he chose to pop outside...
