Thamail Morgan has seen highs and lows as a high school football player that some may not see in their entire life. However, the Cave City outside linebacker has rebounded after off-field issues forced him to transfer from Newport High School.
Those issues led a lot of colleges to stray away from the perhaps top-tier talent in the recruiting game, particularly because of worries about discipline issues. Now, Morgan is becoming a hot commodity again and, after scholarship offers from Memphis and Alcorn State, the ceiling is high again.
"I still have my options open, but I'm on top of my game now," Morgan said. "It's helped me work harder in practice and in the weight room. Getting all these scholarships means I'm still going to college."
While Memphis and Alcorn State were the first NCAA Division I schools to offer, Morgan is certainly hoping for more and truly looking for a college that suits him the best.
"I really want to give a lot of teams a chance, just like all these teams are giving me a chance by offering me," Morgan said. "I want to give any team my best shot and also get a good education. I really want a good education."
That being said, his top three includes two schools that have yet to offer the 6-foot-1, 195-pound linebacker, who has led the Cave Men to a solid 2009 season.
"I'd like to say Arkansas, Ole Miss, and I'll slide Memphis in there," Morgan said. "But Arkansas, they're looking at me, and they're worried about their team right now but they're going to see by the end of the season what they want to do. But anything's possible."
He also made it known that if both Ole Miss and Arkansas were to offer, the Razorbacks would be his No. 1 choice.
"I'd love to play for Arkansas, it'd be neat to play for your home state," Morgan said. "But whatever is good for me and my family and especially for me and my education is where I'm going to go."
As far as turning things around - Morgan credits all of it to his faith.
