FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas is expected to lay out its plan for the basketball team's multiple player suspensions next week. An announcement is expected to come prior to the Nov. 13 season opener against Alcorn State.
Razorbacks coach John Pelphrey said Tuesday more definitive answers should be available soon, but did not specify when. Up to five players, including one walk-on, could face disciplinary action.
At least three players face disciplinary action for their role in a fraternity house incident that led to allegations of rape. No charges were filed, though a special prosecutor has been appointed to review the case.
Guard Courtney Fortson also faces disciplinary action for violating the athletic department's social media policy.
Suspensions likely will be staggered so the Razorbacks are not without a large chunk of the roster at once. Pelphrey, who is working with athletic department administrators in setting the suspensions, said once the suspensions are announced next week, he does not anticipate them to change.
"I don't think it's going to be a fluid situation once we start to implement what we're going to do," Pelphrey said.
Pelphrey said he would not allow himself to be frustrated by the team's current situation. Arkansas is also without forward Michael Sanchez, who is dealing with foot troubles."If I get frustrated it's not going to help anything," Pelphrey said. "We're going to handle the challenge to the best of our ability."
"Whoever shows up, we're going to play. They have a tremendous amount of pride in those white uniforms because of who came before us. We want the same success they had."
