WHY THE RAZORBACKS WON
Michael Washington and Glenn Bryant were tough to handle inside. Washington led the team in all offensive categories except assists. Washington finished with 25 points and 10 rebounds, while Bryant had 17 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks.
KEY MOMENT
With 10:43 to go in the first half, Arkansas got two straight defensive stops - and two straight three-point baskets from Washington. A Washington jumper on the next possession stretched the score from 13-11 to a 10-point Arkansas lead. Dillard was never able to catch back up after the run.
MISSING IN ACTION
Arkansas was without two players expected to receive playing time Monday night as freshman forward Marshawn Powell sat out due to illness and senior guard Stefan Welsh served a suspension.
"Marshawn's sick, he didn't feel well yesterday but he practiced," Coach John Pelphrey said. "He just had a fever today, so we don't know what exactly he's got, but he's sick. It's in his best interests to be resting."
Welsh is part of a group of Razorbacks who are to be suspended at points throughout the season. Pelphrey said the suspension is indefinite and that he is at least pleased with the way Welsh has performed in the classroom and on the court since returning for this semester.
Walk-on Nick Mason was also not dressed out, and Pelphrey said Mason would be a part of the team on a limited basis.
WORK TO DO
Clearly, the Razorbacks need to work on rebounding.
During one first-half possession, Dillard got seven shot attempts. Ultimately, it ended with senior guard DeCarlos Riley tying the game at 8 with a free throw with 14:26 remaining.
Arkansas eventually out-rebounded Dillard 53-47, but was being outdone on the boards 26-24 at halftime.
NEW ADDITION
Yes, that was freshman quarterback Brandon Mitchell dressed out on the Arkansas bench.
Pelphrey confirmed that Mitchell will not play football for the remainder of this season and has joined the basketball team. Mitchell will redshirt in football and take part in basketball activities as soon as he recovers from the minor surgery had to repair a hernia recently.
