Luke Carpenter, a junior at Arkansas Baptist, is the round one leader of the Arkansas High School Overall Golf Championship, being contested at Pleasant Valley Country Club.
The tourney, delayed two weeks by rain, is being played on the new Champion bermudagrass greens of PVCC.
Carpenter, whose older brothers led Arkansas Baptist last season, shot 35 on the front nine and 36 on the back to take a two-stroke lead Wednesday over Marion's Joshua Alford and Mountain Home's Seth Sullivant. The top three boys finishers from each of the state's classifications advanced to the Overall Championship.
