
The Miracle League of Arkansas is bringing several Major Leaguers together on Saturday for a fundraiser at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock.
Benton native and Clevleand Indian pitcher Cliff Lee as well as former Central Arkansas Christian product A.J. Burnett. Burnett pitched last season for the Toronto Blue Jays but recently opted out of his contract to become a free agent. Other major leaguers schedule to appear include: Ben Broussard (New York Yankees); Jason Davis and Matt Miller (Pittsburgh Pirates); Andrew Miller (Florida Marlins), Texarkana native Dustin Moseley (Los Angeles Angels), Rick Guarno, Travis Woods, Chad Harville and others.
A "Pro Skills and Drills" camp will be held for children aged 8-18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Dickey-Stephens Park and includes instruction from the players. The cost to attend is $65.
For those older folks like us, there is an opportunity to help the Miracle League as well and soak in the ambiance of being around Major Leaguers with a "Mingle wiht Big Leaguers" from 7-11 p.m. at at Dickey-Stephens park. Tragically White will be peforming in the Beer Garden and you'll have the opportunity for autographs and photos with the big leaguers. The cost is a bargin is $65.
For those of you that may not know what the Miracle League is, it is a specially designed program for children with disabilities. Children of all ages, 4 and up, can play the game that many call "America's pastime," thanks to a field that includes special features such as synthetic turf to prevent injuries, wheelchar-accessible dugouts and a completely flat surface to eliminate barriers to wheelchair bound and/or visually impaired players.
