KEEP EYES ON:
UALR
Shane Edwards, F, 6-7, 210, Sr.
No one is an outright star for the Trojans; that changes every night out. But Edwards has been huge in recent outings, including hitting the game-winning shot in UALR's 61-59 win at South Alabama on Thursday night. Edwards, who was up and down in his first year out of junior college in 2007-08, appears to be coming into his own for UALR in Sun Belt play this year.
Troy
Richard Delk, G, 6-4, 180 Jr.
The former Mississippi State swingman and nephew of Kentucky great Tony Delk is leading the Trojans in scoring at 13.9 points per game and has a team-leading 30.9 minutes per game. He's the only Trojan to start all 20 games this season. Delk is second on the team in rebounds at 5 per game.
IN PARTICULAR:
It's Trojans vs. Trojans in terms of mascots. Bad break for Ray Tucker and Bobby Vint, who will be doing the radio broadcast.
Troy did not win a road nonconference game in five trips. In all games, Troy is 2-7 on the road. Troy won at Louisiana-Monroe 71-70 last Saturday, following up a surprising 94-70 blowout of South Alabama two nights earlier. In their latest outing, the Trojans won at home against New Orleans 83-72 with Brandon Hazzard scoring 26 points and reserve Kenny Ware pulling in nine rebounds.
Troy as a team is being outrebounded on average more than 2 rebounds a game. No Trojan averages more than the 6.5 rebounds per game by senior center Tom Jervis, a native of Perth, Australia.
UALR is 8-2 at home this season. Three of UALR's five Sun Belt wins have been in overtime. Two other league wins have been decided by a total of seven points. UALR's only bad night in league play came in a 32-point blowout at Western Kentucky.
Mike Smith, UALR's starting center earlier in the season, remains suspended indefinitely.
