As expected, Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino named sophomore Ryan Mallett the starting quarterback entering the fall.
Mallett, the transfer from Michigan, worked with the first team throughout most of the spring. He beat out Tyler Wilson for the job.
Mallett finished 15 of 26 or 233 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions in the spring game. Wilson was 23-of-36 for 301 yards with two touchdowns and an interception playing for both the Red and White teams.
Petrino said Mallett provided the needed leadership and showed more polished in the run game.
However, if the season opener were Saturday, Petrino said he'd bring Wilson in during the second quarter. It's something Petrino did for a season at Louisville.
